Kids clothing size: How we calculate
How we calculate
We select the smallest published height at least as tall as the entered value. If supplied circumferences exceed that row, we look for the next suitable row. This is a calculator guideline, not a fit guarantee. Outside the published height range, or without a suitable row, we do not invent a size.
Known-size mode compares the nominal height in the selected brand’s chart. We do not infer circumferences or present this as an exact size conversion.
We use general charts for ordinary children’s clothing. Special ranges, underwear, swimwear, footwear and accessories are excluded. Measure babies lying down; measure older children standing without shoes. Age labels are a guide and do not replace measurements.
For example, height 68 cm without other measurements gives size 68 in all six charts. The chest reference at that size is 44 cm for Reserved, 45 cm for Sinsay and 45.5 cm for Lindex and H&M; PEPCO and Zara do not publish it.
Fit depends on the garment and cut. Check the specific product chart before buying.
How to measure
Use a soft tape measure on the body, not a finished garment. Keep the tape level, untwisted and without compressing the body.
- Height: without shoes, from heel to crown. Measure a baby’s body length lying down.
- Chest: measure around the fullest part of the chest.
- Waist: measure around the body at bellybutton level, without pulling in the stomach.
- Hips: measure around the widest part of the hips and seat, with feet together.
For a more accurate match, enter height and chest, waist and hip circumferences. Only measurements published by each brand are used; PEPCO and Zara provide height only. Even a full set of measurements does not guarantee fit.
Chart limitations
PEPCO’s general chart publishes height labels from 68 only, so added circumferences cannot be checked.
Sinsay’s older-child waist and hip labels contradict each other; those fields are currently omitted.
H&M uses the official EUR chart from H&M NZ; AU age labels are excluded.
For Zara we use height labels 68–164 published on its Estonian site. Body circumferences are not published; finished-garment dimensions cannot replace them.
