Clothing size: How we calculate

Find an approximate adult clothing size from body measurements or a brand label.

How the size is selected

Choose a brand, womenswear or menswear, and a garment. The main list contains Estonia-relevant H&M, Reserved, Lindex, Sinsay and House. Nike and Adidas are grouped under sport; Levi’s covers tops, trousers and jeans. The no-brand mode uses the ASOS reference for country labels, women’s letter sizes, shirts and suits. For point-based charts we choose the nearest published measurement; for interval charts we select a matching interval or the nearest row. The calculator does not always size up.

ISO 8559-1 and 8559-2 describe how to measure the body and which measurements matter for different garments. They do not make M or EU 40 fit the same across brands. With no brand selected, we use published ASOS charts; with a brand selected, we use that brand’s chart. Measurements in centimetres describe the body, not the finished garment.

For example, the ASOS women’s clothing chart places M at approximately EU 40–42 and UK 12–14. This is an ASOS chart equivalence, not an international rule for every item labelled M.

Jeans and trousers are separate. Men’s underwear and swim briefs share an ASOS chart; women’s swimsuits use a separate chart. For women’s swimwear and bras, we convert a known label only: one body measurement cannot reliably determine fit or cup size.

For women’s jeans, the ASOS reference converts known sizes only. The published chart does not confirm body measurements for standard jeans; use the specific product chart to choose by measurements.

Example: a 94 cm bust maps to Reserved womenswear EU 40, UK 12, US 10 and IT 44. Another brand may fit differently.

Selected published adult brand charts only. This is a guide, not a fit guarantee. Trouser W/L marks inches; a length is shown only where the brand chart supports it.

We compare brands only by the same body measurement; hips are not treated as waist. Add the second measurement to compare a brand using another chart. For a known label we use the midpoint of its chart interval.

The same label may fit differently across brands and cuts. Check the specific product chart and fit.
