Parental benefit · 2026: How we calculate
Calculate mother’s, father’s or shared parental benefit.
How we calculate
For prenatal mother’s benefit, we use the expected birth date. For ordinary post-birth mother’s, father’s and shared benefit, we use the actual birth date. We count back 21 months from that month and use the following 12 full calendar months for income; the nine months immediately before birth are excluded. For a birth date in July 2026, this means income from October 2024 through September 2025. We divide included days by 30, round the month count to two decimals and cap it at 12. Income is divided by that month count; if it is zero, positive income is divided by 12 and zero income remains zero. After applying the minimum or maximum, we round the daily rate to cents, multiply it by the selected days, and calculate 22% income tax with the chosen tax-free allowance.
