Unit conversion: How we calculate
How we calculate
Unit factors follow NIST definitions. °C, °F and K account for scale offsets. Fuel consumption in l/100 km is reciprocal to efficiency in km/l or mpg; zero has no defined reciprocal. kB and MB are decimal; KiB and MiB are binary. Mass is distinct from force.
Worked example
1.5 km = 1.5 × 1,000 = 1,500 m. Temperature uses both a scale change and an offset: 20 °C = 20 × 9/5 + 32 = 68 °F. It cannot be converted with a single multiplier as length units can.
