Golden ratio: Explanation and example

Divide a length into long and short parts in the golden ratio.

Explanation and example

The constant φ = (1 + √5)/2. The long part equals total length / φ and the short part is the remainder.

Example: length 10 divides into about 6.18034 and 3.81966; their ratio is about 1.61803.

Limits

Enter a positive length. This is an ideal mathematical ratio; physical precision depends on measurement.
